Avenue des sciences humaines, Laval University, 2015
Laval University redesigned the Avenue des Sciences Humaines into an avenue shared by cyclists, pedestrians and utility vehicles at a cost of $1.5 million.
Reconditioning the sewer lines was the launching point of the project: since the avenue had to be redone anyway, the university decided to give it a complete overhaul.
Replacing the asphalt with pavers sent a clear message regarding how the artery was going to be used. Though more expensive, pavers are more environmentally friendly as they are more durable than asphalt.
Adding to campus life
Public benches were equipped with tablet beds that could accommodate laptops. New streetlights were also installed.
Bolduc Avenue interlocking pavers were used to cover 40,000 sq. ft.
