Sainte-Rose-de-Lima Church, Laval, 2022
Built between 1852 and 1856, the current Sainte-Rose-de-Lima church is one of the jewels in the crown of Victor Bourgeau’s career as an architect. Bourgeau is known for his religious architectural works, such as the interior of the Notre-Dame de Montréal Basilica and the Trois-Rivières Cathedral. Located at 219 Boulevard Sainte-Rose, in the heart of the neighborhood and bordering the Mille-Îles River, the building was granted historic monument status in 1974. Also, eighteen of its furnishings were classified as heritage objects at the same time.
The renovation project of the Berge des Baigneurs, an exceptional site much appreciated by the people of Laval, began with the restoration of Sainte-Rose-de-Lima church’s parvis and the parking lot near the Villemaire Elementary School. This is one of the only major riverside parks on the territory, located in the heart of a lively neighborhood.
In addition to providing facilities that are better suited to visitors’ needs in terms of mobility, safety, and activities, the significant revitalization of this location has also made it simpler to access both the site and the Mille-Îles River.
Bolduc Avenue pavers have been installed to enhance this historic site.
