In addition to custom-designed prefabricated concrete components, 25,500 sq. ft. of Avenue pavers were used for Phase One.
Morgan Park regains a bearing more in line with its pedigree.
Named a heritage site of exceptional value in 2005, Morgan Park forges new ties with its past. This park’s makeover was a priority for the City of Montreal due to the location’s historical significance. James Morgan’s farm and manor, as well as Henry Morgan’s store which has since become The Bay, was the neighbourhood`s busiest area. Thanks to its new public grounds and the strategically located fountain on Morgan Avenue, Morgan Park can again be the focal point of local life, revitalize that section of Sainte-Catherine St. East, and act as a venue for all sorts of activities,” declared Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough Mayor Réal Ménard.
$3 million was dispensed over the two phases of the development to make the public space safer and more convenient for local citizens. Denis Ashby, from the Mercier-Hochelage-Maisonneuve borough, was the principal designer. Phase One was designed to create a link with the Maisonneuve Market through the construction of the fountain and the public place.
